Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's ODI Team Against Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-game ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a shock call-up.

Recent Form Result in Omission

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international team after scoring just one run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a top score of 47 in his last 10 ODI batting appearances.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 ODIs and scored 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now work towards a Test recall ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia look for a answer to their batting top-order problems.

Bowling Additions and Fitness Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he aims to recover from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to seal a two-nil victory last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from October 29.
